12.21.07 - CPAP NEWS - Philips in $5 billion Respironics Deal Philips Electronics has announced plans to buy U.S. sleep therapy products maker Respironics Inc for $5.1 billion, its largest deal to date in an aggressive expansion in the fast-growing health-care sector. Philips -- the world's biggest lighting maker, a top three hospital equipment maker and Europe's biggest consumer electronics producer -- said it would pay $66 per share for Murrysville, Pennsylvania-based Respironics, a 24 percent premium to its Thursday closing price. 07.30.07 - CPAP NEWS - Respironics Reports Record Quaterly Results - Q4 2007 Net sales for the fourth quarter totaled $332.4 million, which represents an increase of more than 18 percent over the $280.7 million achieved in the fourth quarter a year ago. The Company's recent acquisitions added approximately $5.1 million of revenues during the quarter, primarily related to international distributor acquisitions. 05.28.07 - CPAP EDUCATION - What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. These episodes, called apneas, occur repeatedly during sleep and last long enough so one or more breaths are missed. There are two distinct forms of sleep apnea: Central Sleep Apnea and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. In Central Sleep Apnea breathing is interrupted by a lack of effort; in Obstructive Sleep Apnea breathing is interrupted by a physical block to airflow despite effort. [more]
